Buying used compact tractors
Compact tractors do much of the heavy work on a course or grounds: running aerators and sweepers, towing trailers and top-dressers, and powering mowing decks. Turf tyres are essential on fine turf, while agricultural tyres suit rougher work.
Check engine hours, service history and how easily it starts from cold. Look at the three-point linkage, PTO, hydraulic spool valves and loader for leaks and wear, and check the tyres, brakes and clutch or hydrostatic drive. Ask whether it has a front loader, mid-mount deck or weights.
Make sure the horsepower and linkage category match the implements you plan to run. Common makes include Kubota, John Deere, Iseki and Kioti. Use the year and engine hours filters to compare tractors, then contact the dealer directly.
