Buying used flail mowers
Flail mowers handle long, rough and wet grass that would stall a rotary or cylinder mower. Most are tractor-mounted, and flail collectors that cut and collect in one pass are popular on golf courses for rough, fairway clearing and leaf pickup.
Check the rotor for bent or missing flails, and ask whether the flails and their shackles have been replaced, as they wear steadily. Look at the rotor bearings, the gearbox for leaks, the belts and the PTO shaft. On collectors, check the hopper, tipping rams and any hydraulic hoses.
