Buying used gang mowers
Gang mowers join several cylinder units together to cut wide areas quickly. Trailed gangs are pulled behind a tractor and ground-driven, while hydraulic gang mowers are self-propelled machines with hydraulically driven units.
On trailed gangs, check the cylinders and bedknives, the land wheels and their drive, the frame for cracks and the hitch. On hydraulic machines, check engine hours, service history, and the hoses and unit motors for leaks. On any gang mower, ask when the cylinders were last ground.
Gang mowers suit councils, schools and sports clubs with large playing fields, and golf courses for semi-rough. Common makes include Ransomes, Jacobsen and Toro. Filter by year and engine hours to compare, and contact the dealer directly.
