Buying used pedestrian mowers
Pedestrian mowers give the finest finish on greens, bowling greens and cricket squares, and are useful for small or awkward areas where a ride-on will not fit. Most are cylinder mowers, though walk-behind rotary mowers are common for general grounds work.
Check the cylinder and bedknife for wear, the rollers and bearings, and the clutch and drive. Many modern machines take interchangeable cassettes such as verticut, scarifier or brush units, which add value if included. Look at the engine for smoke and hard starting, and ask about battery health on electric models.
Common makes include Allett, Dennis, Hayter, Toro, John Deere, Baroness and Ransomes. Filter by year to narrow your search, and ask the dealer what cassettes or accessories come with the mower.
