Buying used seeders and overseeders
Seeders and overseeders get seed into the soil where it has the best chance of germinating. Disc seeders slice into the surface, while dimple or spike seeders create small holes. Pedestrian machines suit greens and small areas, and tractor-mounted units cover pitches and fairways.
Check the discs, blades or spikes for wear, the seed hopper and metering mechanism for blockages and corrosion, and the brushes that drop seed into the slots. Ask whether it has been cleaned out properly, as old seed and fertiliser residue cause problems. On tractor-mounted units, check the frame, gearbox and linkage.
